Over a hundred students and teachers from Tsinghua University Shenzhen International Graduate School, Technical University of Munich (TUM), and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) participated in the event.

Vice Dean of Tsinghua University Shenzhen International Graduate School Zuo Jian'e, Senior Manager of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Ma Wenyuan, Associate Professor of Data and Information Research Institute Han Yu, Associate Professor of Future Human Habitat Research Institute Zhang Yi, Juliana Bonitz, International Affairs Manager of TUM, Entrepreneurship Mentor Magnus Baumann, Feng Lv, Director and Deputy General Manager of Shenzhen Dashi Intelligent Co., Ltd., Peng Shuxue, Chairman of Xusource Capital, Liu Weiwu, Product Manager of Guangzhou Heige Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., Zhao Yusi, Person in Charge of Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship Center, Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), and Chen Ping, Founder of OpenELAB attended the salon.

In the current wave of globalization and the rapid development of technology and innovation, globalized industrial, academic, and corporate exchange activities have become increasingly important, becoming a key platform for promoting international cooperation and innovation. In this event, OpenELAB, as a co-organizer, joined forces with the Haobo U-Creation, Startup Grind Shenzhen and other Shenzhen innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem cooperation networks to invite senior experts from advanced manufacturing, smart cities, and investment to exchange with Tsinghua professors, students and TUM startup teams, discussing the latest technology trends and global innovation cooperation opportunities.

Let's follow the footsteps of OpenELAB and join the international youth exchange salon activities together!

Activity Review

PART ONE: Startup Roadshow

12 entrepreneurial projects from TUM, Tsinghua University Shenzhen International Graduate School, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) presented roadshow presentations on the morning of April 15th. The presentations covered a wide range of fields, including 3D printing, robotics, new energy, and artificial intelligence.

PART TWO: OpenELAB Open-source project demo

During the intermission of the event, the OpenELAB team demonstrated the functionalities of intelligent hardware products built using open-source hardware modules, including:
  • Face recognition using the Huskylens AI module, where a flagpole is raised when a recognized face is detected, and automatically lowered after 5 seconds.
  • Color recognition using the Huskylens AI module, with LEDs displaying the currently detected color.
  • Distance measurement between objects and modules using a TOF laser rangefinder, with PWM used to achieve a breathing light function.
  • Face recognition system consisting of a CSI camera and a servo cloud platform, implemented with the OpenCV framework and PID algorithm for face tracking.

PART THREE:The keynote speech on AI+Hardware

In the afternoon, Mr. Magnus Baumann, a mentor from the TUM's startup program, Professor Han Yuxing, Mr. Lu Feng, Professor Zhang Yi, and other distinguished guests delivered keynote speeches on the topic.

PART FOUR Roundtable Forum

During the Roundtable Forum session, OpenELAB founder Ping Chen served as the moderator, with Professor Zhang Yi, Mr. Magnus Baumann, Professor Han Yuxing, and Mr. Peng Shuxue as guests. The guests engaged in a lively discussion on diverse topics such as technological trends, entrepreneurial challenges, environmental issues, and international cooperation. They had in-depth exchange around technology innovation and entrepreneurial strategies.

GBA (Greater Bay Area) Smart Hardware Ecosystem Survey

On April 16th, OpenELAB led the startup teams from the TUM to visit Tian'an Shenchuang Valley, Huaqiangbei Electronics Museum, and Huaqiangbei Electronics Market, in order to gain a deeper understanding of the smart electronic hardware innovation and intelligent manufacturing ecosystem in Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area.

Over the following week, OpenELAB and the TUM startup teams visited several smart hardware manufacturing facilities, which offered high-quality and quick-response flexible manufacturing services such as 3D printing, mold injection, sheet metal fabrication, and electronic manufacturing. The visits also included electronic design companioes with extensive industry and project know-how, accelerating the development and commercialization of their smart hardware products.
