Functionality and Gameplay

The Lucky Wheel is a tool used to predict where a rotating disk will stop. It can also be used for guessing number games, as an electronic dice, or as a lottery machine. This electronic version of the lucky wheel achieves the same functionality. The kit arranges 10 LEDs in a circle. When you press the button, each LED lights up sequentially in a rotating pattern. The rotation gradually slows down and eventually stops on one specific LED. If the LED that lights up matches the player’s prediction, it indicates a “win.”

Circuit Principle

The circuit is mainly composed of a pulse generator and a decimal counter circuit.

  • Pulse Generator: Built with an NE555 timer configured as a multivibrator. When the button (S1) is pressed, transistor Q1 conducts, and the NE555 timer outputs pulses through pin 3. These pulses are fed into the CD4017 decade counter, which sequentially outputs a high signal to drive the 10 LEDs one by one.

  • Slowing Mechanism: After releasing the button, capacitor C1 ensures that Q1 doesn't stop conducting immediately. As the voltage across C1 decreases, the conduction of Q1 gradually weakens, slowing the pulse frequency from the NE555. As a result, the LED rotation also slows down. Once C1 fully discharges, Q1 stops conducting, and the NE555 ceases to output pulses, making the LED sequence come to a halt. This marks the end of a "draw."

  • R2: Controls the LED rotation speed

  • C1: Determines the waiting time for the "draw"

This engaging electronic kit offers a fun and interactive way to experiment with basic electronics!
