The 5th Maker Faire Salzburg, held on November 9, 2024, at TriBühne Lehen, proved to be a tremendous success, drawing in makers, technology enthusiasts, and curious visitors of all ages. This event, hosted by the Spektrum Association and supported by the Salzburg City Library and funding from Salzburg’s municipal and state government, showcased a variety of innovative projects spanning digital technology, traditional crafts, and creative fabrication.

This event brought together makers, tech enthusiasts, and the public from around the world. As a lover of the smart hardware and AIoT field, OpenELAB was invited to participate and showcase our latest electronic development modules and IoT solutions.

Event Highlights

The Faire featured an impressive array of DIY projects from around the world, including 3D printing, robotics, electronics, and interactive installations. Attendees were not only able to admire the displays but also engage in hands-on activities and connect with makers. Committed to sustainability, Maker Faire Salzburg was organized as a green event, with waste reduction initiatives, encouragement of eco-friendly transportation, and a selection of local organic food from vegan food trucks.

Highlights of Our Booth

At our booth, visitors explored a range of cutting-edge products, from sensors and control modules for smart homes to innovative electronic hardware for industrial and educational use. We also presented our open-source hardware platform and ecosystem, attracting numerous developers who stopped by to learn more and engage in discussions.

This exhibition featured a variety of smart hardware projects, covering entertainment, measurement, data transmission, and IoT applications.

The projects were diverse, ranging from interactive entertainment devices to precise measurement tools and real-time data transmission systems, fully showcasing the wide-ranging possibilities of smart hardware across various application scenarios.

IoT Smart Home

The Internet of Things (IoT) is rapidly changing the way we live, especially at home! Imagine opening your door with RFID, getting instant alerts if there's a gas leak in the kitchen, or having your windows close automatically when it rains.

Our M5StickCPlus2 Slot – Slot Machine Project combines a lightweight design, making it portable and easy to assemble, with a highly interactive experience that simulates a real slot machine. Its high efficiency and low power consumption ensure extended use, making it ideal for long-term demonstrations.

Our Speed Measurement Project uses a Hall sensor to detect rotation and calculate the speed of objects like bicycles and fans. With the compact and portable M5StickC Plus2, featuring a built-in display, speed can be measured easily anytime, anywhere. Its efficient microcontroller and low-power display ensure long-lasting battery life, making it ideal for continuous measurements.

Our ESP MCU Lego Car – Smart Control Demonstration showcases precise control features, using the ESP-NOW protocol for forward and reverse movements controlled by AtomS3 and ESP32. It includes servo-based steering for smooth turns, a lighting system for improved visibility in low light, and a joystick that adjusts speed dynamically based on tilt, providing intuitive and flexible operation.

Our OpenDTU Real-Time Data Transmission and Monitoring System offers multi-source data transmission, real-time monitoring, and data collection capabilities, ideal for energy management applications. Additionally, other projects showcased technologies ranging from sensor applications to multi-protocol connectivity, fully demonstrating the innovation and practicality of smart hardware.

A Hub for Exploring Innovation

At our booth, we were thrilled to connect with electronics enthusiasts, makers, and engineers from around the world. Here, we showcased a variety of smart hardware demos covering innovative applications in IoT, speed measurement, and interactive entertainment. Our booth drew a large crowd, and our team members were on hand to provide in-depth explanations of each demo’s design concepts and technical details.

This face-to-face interaction allowed us to reach many points of consensus with visitors. Numerous developers expressed strong interest in our products and solutions, discussing the potential for applying these technologies to real-world projects. Through this exhibition, we not only shared cutting-edge technology but also built meaningful connections with fellow tech enthusiasts.
